Skagway tour vehicle rundown
When you go on a tour, you typically ride in a vehicle of some sort. A lot of people will choose a tour based on their tour vehicle preference. Every day in the M&M tour booth, we encounter cruise ship passengers who say things like, “There is no way I’m getting into a small plane” and “My wife hates buses” and “You got any of them four by four tours?” This proves that the type of tour vehicle is often the deciding factor when making a purchase. In today’s Skagway tour vehicle rundown, we are going to breakdown the tours by the type of vehicle used. Pretty awesome, right?
What Skagway tour vehicle do you prefer?
For the purpose of this blog, we are going to focus on tours where you spend the majority of the duration in a vehicle. This means we won’t include tours like ziplining because a bus is only used to get you to the tour site. Let’s say you have to spend at least 50% of the tour in the vehicle for it to count. And away we go!
Skagway tour vehicle – Bus
The most common Skagway tour vehicle is a bus. Some buses are big, some are small, and some even defy the description of a bus. For the purpose of this article, we will say a bus is any tour vehicle that holds 7 or more passengers. Large tour buses owned by the cruise ship companies seat from 52 to 56 people. Most of the privately owned buses are the “airport shuttle” variety and seat between 16 and 32. Some independent tour operators use buses that seat smaller groups. Think of these as a mini-bus.
Some of the tours we offer that feature bus travel include:
- City & Summit tour
- Yukoner tour
- Yukon Discovery tour
- Skagway Street Car tour
- Private Yukon tours
Skagway tour vehicle – Train
Skagway is famous for its train tour. In fact, it is the most popular land-based tour in the state of Alaska. If you’re a train enthusiast, you may love this tour more than your wedding day. If you don’t like trains, it’s probably not something you want to spend money on.
Some of the train tours we offer include:
- Fraser/Bus Combination
- Fraser Round Trip
- Train with Stops (this tour is half train and half bus)
Skagway tour vehicle – Helicopter
If you want the best views of Alaska’s frontier wilderness, heed the words of Ahnold and “Get to the choppah!” Helicopters are awesome because you can hover over glacial features and even land on them. Some of the helicopter tours we offer include:
- Glacier Discovery by Helicopter
- Helicopter Dogsled tour
Skagway tour vehicle – Boat
There are all sorts of boats. In fact, you arrived in Skagway on a really big boat. Spending time in a boat can be a lot of fun if the weather cooperates, but if seas are rough you better be sure your stomach can handle it. Nobody enjoys turning green and puking over the rail. Some of our boat tours include:
- Ocean Raft Wildlife Adventure
- Juneau whale watching tour
- Glacier Point Wilderness Safari (landing craft and canoe. That’s two boats!)
- Train and Kayak tour (this includes a train, bus, and kayak. Crazy.)
Pick your favorite Skagway tour vehicle today!
There are some other tours with bicycles and one with an airplane, so you can ride in all sorts of vehicles if that’s your bag. One tour operator offers horseback riding, but I am not really sure if a horse is a vehicle. We are happy to help you refine your search for the perfect Skagway tour vehicle, so if you have any questions, please give us a call.
