Kid friendly tours in Skagway
If you have kids, you can’t just take them on an alpine glacier hike and hope they keep up. You have to consider their needs and make sure they are capable of participating in the shore excursions you choose while visiting Alaska. Skagway has a lot of fun things to do, but you need to select a tour that your kids will enjoy. The last thing you want is some total freak out that ruins your vacation. Kids are tough.
Bring a cell phone
Nobody is going to tell you that I am “smart” or “knowledgeable” but I do have eyes. Do you know what I see? Kids are addicted to phones. If you come to Skagway and take away their phone, they are going to have a temper tantrum and hate you for a day or two. Just let them have their stupid phone. Most tours leave Skagway and go to places where phones won’t work, so they won’t blame you for their withdrawals. Perhaps they will blame the tour salesperson. We don’t care.
Let’s talk about kid-friendly tours
Kids come in all ages. Very young kids can’t do much without crying, wanting to eat, or some other such nonsense. You can’t control that but perhaps a tour is a bad idea. For this blog, I’m mostly talking about tours where you can take a kid of about 6 to 18 years of age. Keep in mind that I don’t have kids and know very little about them.
Musher’s Camp Sled Dog Experience
This tour features sled dogs and puppies. I can pretty much guarantee your kids like dogs and puppies unless they’re weird or something. The dogs pull you around in a cart and a good time is had by all. Even adults like this tour, so it’s not like you have to do something you hate because your kids complain all the time.
Helicopter Dogsled Experience
If you have a lot of extra money, this tour is great. Again, it’s all about sled dogs but you take a helicopter to a dog camp in the snow. That’s pretty great. If you take your kids on this tour, they won’t hate you for a day or two. You may even get them to do dishes or mow the lawn if you play your cards right.
The Big Nugget
This tour features sled dogs, puppies, gold panning, and the 40-Below Experience. Yet again, there are dogs. Kids like gold panning and they find some gold, which is neat. You also get to experience 40 degrees below zero temperatures in the 40-Below Chamber. What could be better than that?
Ghosts and Goodtime Girls Brothel Tour
Haha. Kidding. I was just seeing if you were paying attention.
I hope you find a way to enjoy your vacation with kids in tow. I see happy families every day in the tour booth, and it’s very heartwarming. Vacations should be fun for the entire family, so if there’s anything we can do to make your trip better, just say the word.
