Alaska cruise secrets –
Getting the most from your dollar!
If you’re planning an Alaska cruise, you undoubtedly want to get the most bang for your buck. As you travel through destinations like Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan, you’re going to see endless signs on businesses promising discounts, savings, and sales. All of those things are great but how can you get the most bang for your buck? I am going to tell you.
The best Alaska cruise secrets are all about value
Who doesn’t like saving money? Nobody. However, saving money on a souvenir that breaks before you get home doesn’t save you anything. If you save money on a boring tour that you hate, you didn’t save money. Saving money is only worthwhile when value is involved. What is value? It is defined as “the importance, worth, or usefulness of something.” So saving money only matters if the item you purchase has value. Do you get it? I sure hope so.
Alaska cruise secrets – let’s talk about how to get the most from your dollar
You work hard. Or you just have a lot of money and travel all the time but either way, you expect to get the most out of your dollar. How can you find Alaskan food, merchandise, and tours that offer you the most value?
First and foremost, BUY FROM REAL ALASKAN VENDORS, ARTISTS, and BUSINESS OWNERS. Do you see how I capitalized those words? Because it’s the most important Alaska cruise secret you are ever going to hear.
Why should you buy local? When you travel to a place, the idea is to experience that place. You don’t go to the beach to snow ski and you don’t travel to the desert to go fishing. If you do, you’re a crazy person. When you travel to Alaska, you want to experience the last frontier and discover what life is like for people living on the edge of civilization.
Let me tell you, Alaskan life isn’t easy! It’s expensive to live in Alaska and we work hard to make sure you have a good time when you visit. We are friendly and honest. So, why would you buy a diamond ring from a chain store when you can buy something far more authentic and beautiful from an Alaskan? Why would you eat at McDonald’s when you can taste fresh caught wild Alaskan salmon? WHY? Answer me!
Value on your Alaskan tour
How can you get the most value from your Alaska tours? Don’t just buy anything that’s on sale. Go talk to a LOCAL tour salesperson when you get into port and they will help you find something you actually like. Do you really think the salespeople on the tour boats know anything about a Yukon Tour? They don’t. How do I know? They aren’t allowed into the Yukon because the ship holds their passport. Indeed, they are employees making commission and have no vested interest in your experience.
Your local tour vendor will help you find the right tour for you. Do you want to see whales? Okay, we can make that happen. You don’t want to hike? We won’t sell you a hiking tour just because it’s on sale. What we will do is ask you questions and ascertain the best tour for you based on the answers you provide. That’s what value is all about!
We want you to come back, which is why we always strive to do a good job
If you come to Alaska and have a bad time, you’re never going to come back. That’s not good for those of us that make our living on tourism. Cruise ship ranks Alaskans as some of the friendliest people in the world. We aren’t going to rip you off or treat you like a jerk because we are nice people. We like tourists and we want you to have a good time. We love our home and we want you to love it.
I guess that was actually one Alaska cruise secret
Do you know why there was only one Alaska cruise secret in this blog? Because shopping local is the only one that matters. If you do this one simple thing, you are going to have better experiences, eat better food, and bring home better souvenirs. End of story.
